Chromebook Student Loaner Message to Parents

Good Afternoon Pfaff Families,

This email pertains to your child receiving a Chromebook computer from our school today. This device is on loan during our time out of school. Please read this message carefully.

As you read in Dr. Harner’s email, our schools will be closed for at least March 29th.  In order to help our students stay engaged in academic content, each student is being sent home with a Chromebook device and charger cords to access the internet.  This device is on loan and must be returned to the school when school resumes.  Sending a device home with every student is an enormous gesture of trust with each family and demonstrates the district’s commitment to our students’ learning.  We are asking all families to CLICK THIS LINK and fill out the short form to acknowledge receipt of this device for each child that you enrolled at Pfaff Elementary.  Please complete this form as soon as you can.

AM kindergarten students did not receive a device today because of their limited time at school.  Absent students obviously could not receive a device either. We want to ensure that all students have computer access.  So, if you would like to come to school this afternoon to pick up a device for your AM Kindergarten or absent child, please do that before 5:00 PM.  If you do not need a loaner device for your child because your child already has access to a computer, then you do not need to come pick up a device.

Please note that students in kindergarten and grade 1 usually use i-pads while at Pfaff and may have limited familiarity with the use of Chromebook devices.  However, all students were given Chromebook devices and may access the QCSD At Home Learning Opportunities for Students and Families - Spring 2020 website with internet connection.

Additionally, please note that QCSD firewall and age-appropriate software barriers may not be active on home internet networks, so families are encouraged to monitor their child(ren’s) use of the computer and website access.

If your household does not currently have internet access, Comcast is providing their $9.99 internet access at home for low-income families for FREE for the next two months to help students who may be out of school. Information can be found here.  After your first two free months expire, you can either cancel the service (which you can do at any time) or keep it as a regular paying Internet Essentials customer (Comcast Site).

Again, you will need to come to Pfaff prior to 5:00 PM today to receive the device.

Thank you for your flexibility during this time.  Stay safe and healthy!

Dr. Orathia Bradley
